

Lawrence J. Holecek, 74, passed away Friday evening January 21, 2011 at his home in College Station. Visitation will be Monday January 24 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station, with a Vigil Service beginning at 7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station with Reverend Michael O’Connor officiating. Entombment will follow in Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Bryan.
Lawrence was born August 30, 1936 to John F. and Annie Zurek Holecek in Rosenberg, Texas. He moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M College. In 1961, he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Education from Texas A&M, followed by his Masters Degree in Education in 1964. Lawrence retired after 33 years with the College Station Independent School District as teacher and coach.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station where he served as an usher. Lawrence was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the Msgr. Valenta Assembly 2041. He was the first Faithful Navigator of the Assembly and served as the Color Corps Commander of the Assembly until his illness. He was also a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Col. Walter Parsons Council 3205.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy Holecek of College Station; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Westbrook and husband J.P. of College Station, and Johanna Schneider and husband Mike of Houston; two grandchildren, Casie Westbrook and Cody Westbrook of College Station; and numerous cousins.
