

Leola M. Powell, 96, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 10 am Thursday, Aug. 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, College Station, with burial to follow at College Station Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be held from 8:30 am until the time of the services.
She was born on April 19, 1914, near Hot Springs, Ark., and moved as a child to Ardmore, Okla., where she met and eventually married John Douglas Powell. They had two children. The family moved to Houston in 1942, where she worked as an accountant.
In 1960, John and Leola moved to Laredo, where they operated their own business, Craig Venetian Blind Company. In addition to her business she was Executive Secretary for the United Way of Webb County. In retirement she and her husband moved to College Station to be near her son and his family.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of College Station and the Esther Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Powell; her sister, Juanita Mitchell; her son-in-law, Jerry Foose; and her great-grandson Levi Powell.
She is survived by her son, Donald Powell and his wife Mary Jo of College Station; her daughter Juanola Powell Foose of Arlington; five grandchildren, John Christopher Powell and his wife Linda of College Station; Robert Carlton Powell and his wife Melissa of Tyler; Edward Clayton Powell of College Station; Brian Kendall Foose and his partner Wayne Styra of Fort Worth; Catherine Elizabeth Corkran and her husband David of College Station; and five great-grandchildren, Amber Powell, Logan Powell, Zachry Powell, Christina Corkran; and Caitlin Corkran of College Station; and numerous nieces and nephews.
