Lurleen Crenshaw Cooner, 94, of College Station, went to be with her Lord on May 14, 2014. She was born April 28, 1920 in Brazos County to Ollie and Sallie Bullock Crenshaw. She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1938 and married her high school sweet heart, Mack Irvin Cooner, on June 25, 1938. Lurleen and Mack were married over 63 years until his death in 2002. They were in the dairy business for 29 years, owned and operated a general store in Wellborn, and raised beef cattle. Lurleen also worked for Texas A&M University Department of Veterinary Medicine as a Lab Technician, retiring in 1982.
Lurleen was an active member of Wellborn Baptist Church for many years, serving as a Sunday School teacher and general secretary, VBS teacher, and serving on numerous committees. She was a diligent and conscientious person who worked hard at whatever was before her.
Lurleen is predeceased by her parents, husband Mack, son Harold, and brothers Clifton, Louis, and Melvin Crenshaw. She is survived by her sister Louise Bullock of Bryan; son Kenneth and wife Karen of College Station; daughter-in-law, Katie Cooner of Austin; grandsons Scott (Pam) Cooner of Arlington and Nathan Cooner of Ft. Worth; great-grandchildren Cameron, Braden, and Kelsey Cooner of Arlington.
The family would like to thank Dr. George McIlhaney and Compassionate Care Hospice for their help and care of Lurleen; also, the present and past staff of The Waterford of College Station. Your many kindnesses will not be forgotten.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with the family receiving friends and family prior to the service. Reverend Jason Horine of Wellborn Baptist will officiate.
