Nadia McGrann, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, in College Station, Texas. She was born on February 1st, 1943, in Zagreb, Croatia. She lived a life rich in culture, compassion, and connection.
Nadia was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and by a vast network of friends, colleagues, and clients whose lives she touched through her warmth, generosity, and unmistakable sparkle.
When Nadia was five years old, her family emigrated from Croatia to South America. She spent her childhood and formative years in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There, she was immersed in vibrant cultures that shaped her lifelong appreciation for music, language, and delicious cuisine.
Gifted with languages, Nadia was fluent in English, Spanish, Croatian, Italian and French. She attended the American High School in Buenos Aires and later spent a year in the United States as an exchange student at Columbus High School in Columbus, Ohio. That was an experience that further deepened her global outlook.
While living in Buenos Aires in 1969, Nadia met James (Jim) McGrann, a young American working abroad in the cattle industry with students from Texas A&M University. Nadia and Jim’s meeting marked the beginning of a devoted partnership leading them to their wedding in Buenos Aires on July 6, 1970. This would be the beginning of their fifty-five years of marriage, life, and adventures together.
They eventually made the move to Ames, Iowa, when Jim accepted a position with Iowa State University. Ultimately, this created their path to College Station, Texas in 1979 where Jim pursued a distinguished career in Agricultural Economics with Texas A&M University, and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service.
Nadia took great pride in supporting her husband’s work while raising their two children, Michael and Monica.
In 1984, Nadia began a career in real estate that would span more than four decades. Known for her energy, professionalism, and genuine care for others, she worked with several respected realty agencies: Coldwell Banker, RE/MAX Texas Heritage, and Town & Country Realty. Nadia built a reputation as a trusted advisor and later a mentor to her son Michael. Her well-known motto, “Nadia Speaks Your Language,” reflected not only her linguistic abilities but also her remarkable talent for understanding people. She was especially proud of her work serving the Latin American community in Bryan and College Station. Nadia received numerous professional honors during her career, including the International President’s Circle Award.
Nadia and Jim were active members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and enjoyed shared interests and friendships that enriched their lives. Nadia was a fan of opera and enjoyed participating in social activities with Las Chicas Del Coffee and Waterobics Ladies at Tru Fit.
Above all, Nadia was immensely proud of her family. She celebrated her daughter Monica’s career as a pediatrician and her son Michael’s path into real estate, as he followed in her footsteps. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, Tallie and Ari, and cherished every moment with them.
Nadia is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Jim McGrann; her son, Michael McGrann, of College Station, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Yoram Borodaty, and their children, Tallie and Ari, of Houston, Texas; as well as her cousins in Mesquite, Texas, and Argentina.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Nadia’s memory to make a donation in her name to the charity of their choice.
