

Robert Henry Cannon of College Station passed away March 9, 2012 at Hudson Creek Special Care Center in Bryan. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
Robert was born in Elmo, Texas on June 22, 1927 to Athleen and James Cannon. During his youth he lived in Clarendon and Channing, Texas. Robert joined the Army Air Corps 18 months before the end of WWII. When the war ended, he went to work in the oil fields of South Texas. During this time he met the lady that he would make his wife, Hazel True of Alice, Texas. Four years after their marriage, Robert was sent to work in Venezuela. Two small children and wife in tow, they had adventures they never thought possible. The family later moved to Argentina. Robert and Hazel also lived in the Canary Islands, West Africa, and Brazil. Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge #283 in Pleasanton, Texas and he was also a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite.
After his retiring from the oil company, he and Hazel returned to Navasota so he could work on his ranch in Brazos County. Later he retired to College Station to enjoy the remaining years with his family. Robert will always be loved and remembered for his generous nature and loyalty to family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, Eli and Frank.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel; daughters, Holly and her husband Robert Harry Moore, Carol and her husband Michael O’Leary; Grandchildren, Taylor and Diana Moore, Allison and Justin Jensen, Katie and Jay Sartain, Megan and Robbie Holzman; three great grandchildren, Kate Holzman, Jack Sartain and Bennette Moore; sisters, Jane, Erie Etta, Mozelle, Dolores and Drucilla; and a brother Gary Don; brother-in-law, Gene Henry, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Lawrence and Carolyn Pawlik; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert’s final resting place will be in the Aggie Field of Honor at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station.
