Robert attended a little country schoolhouse in Speaks, Texas (envision “Little House on the Prairie”, a favorite of the Rainoshek household). He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. Proudly, Robert enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He worked at the Houston Belt and Terminal Railroad as a railroad clerk for many years, eventually retiring. Robert was devoted to his wife, Louise, along with their three children, family and friends, but mostly to his Lord.
He enjoyed the fellowship of Zion’s Rest Primitive Baptist Church. Robert exhibited pride for his children and their many accomplishments, always eager to help in any way he could. Robert possessed the skill of a handy man and gardener deriving great pleasure through the use of his hands. His love for the country life was where he was most at home. In later years, Robert lived out his dream of farming hay. His middle name became “John Deere”.
Throughout his lifetime, Robert shared the love and companionship of 3 black labs, Slick, Ace and Tank and a blue heeler named Ruby. Family and friends could always count on him to help in any way needed. He always found conversing with others a true pleasure. The daily challenge of completing a crossword puzzle was one of his pastimes, along with reading the Bible. He strived to remain as independent as possible up until his final days.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Georgia Rainoshek; his wife of 60 years, Louise; sisters, Elaine Moore; Paula Granberry and her husband Roy; along with Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Laura and Clint Smith and several much loved and admired Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and friends.
Survivors include sons, Richard and Ken; daughter, Pam Compton and husband, Barry along with their precious daughter and Robert's Granddaughter, Laurie; and numerous special Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and friends.
There are many we would like to extend our most heartfelt appreciation for the many treasured visits, continuous kind care and concern shared with Dad: Each and every associate of BlueBonnet Court, all associates with Traditions Home Health and Hospice, A&M's therapy dog visits, and to all the wonderful folks who share their valuable friendship and talents with the guests at BlueBonnet. We want to extend a special note of thanks to the loving O’Bannon family … please know how much your faithful visits, never ending love and devotion has always meant to Robert and our family throughout so many years.
Once the weather turns cooler, Robert's ashes will be laid to rest at Speaks cemetery alongside his beloved, Louise. Family and friends will be kept updated on plans, including a Memorial Gathering to celebrate Robert’s Life and Times in College Station.
In lieu of flowers/cards, the family is requesting donations be made either to Richard Rainoshek to assist with his continued care, or to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (A.S.A.N.) at https://autisticadvocacy.org/. If you prefer to donate directly to Richard, please contact Richard’s family for options.
