Dr. Robert Daniel Rakov passed away on January 17, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children. Bob was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle to a family who were in awe of his humor, compassion and intellect. He was born in Goshen, New York to Dr. Robert Willis Rakov and Beatrice Emily Rakov.

Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was an Air Traffic Controller for 4 years before entering Cornell University. Upon receiving his medical degree from SUNY, Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. (where both his father and grandfather had also received their medical degrees), he served in the Air Force as a Fight Surgeon in the U.S., Korea and Japan, and left with the rank of Major.

In 1996, he married the love of his life, Theresa Lynch. He completed a fellowship in Rural Medicine and Obstetrics at Tacoma Family Medicine. He then settled in Snyder, Texas where he lived his dream, practicing Family Medicine for 20 years in the towns of Snyder and Lamesa.

In 2017, Bob was offered the position of Director of Peer Review and Assistant Clinical Professor at Texas A & M University, and he and his family started an exciting new chapter by relocating to College Station. Bob enjoyed traveling with his family in their RV, going on cruises, attending baseball games with his son and proudly watching his talented daughter perform in musical and theatrical performances. He was a computer guru and was the personal “IT Guy” for friends and co-workers. Instinctively mechanical, he could fix anything. But above all, his greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife Theresa, his son, Alek and daughter, Emily, as well as his father, Dr. Robert Rakov, and sisters, Kathy Van Patten and Lisa St. John.

There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with visitation at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to or Health For All at

I am truly saddened by Bob’s passing. He loved my sister Theresa and his children Alek and Emily unconditionally and they came first in his very full and busy life. Bob was an inspiration and role model. He never turned away from a challenge and would accomplish tasks most couldn’t even imagine. To me, his most noteworthy trait was his integrity, the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. He never compromised on his beliefs. Bob will be loved, missed and remembered.

I had the honor of working with this very unique man. I am sad he has left this earth. I'm sure Heaven is surely enjoying him. So many days he made us smile and laugh. We even sang a few old songs. He blessed many people as he truly cared for them. He was very generous with his time as well as his finances. He loved his family. I pray blessings on Theresa, the children and family to find Peace in this time of loss.

Dr. Rakov, We thank you for your services and you delivered our first born son in 2012. You was one of the best doctors in Snyder, Tx. You had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh and making sure our Son was doing okay and making sure it’s growing into a healthy boy. You will always be remembered and we will miss you dearly. Also when my husband used to work at Domino’s pizza, he always telling me you were asking how I’m doing and the family’s. Rest In Peace Dr. Rakov. You will always be remembered but never forgotten. Thank you for your many years of services.

I did not know Dr. Robert Rakov, but I did know his grandfather, Daniel. Dr. Daniel Rakov cared for my family and me for many years. Old timers in Maybrook N. Y. can tell stories of him. It seems that Dr. Daniel Rakov left a legacy of caring that inspired several generations. My sympathy to the Rakov family for their loss.

I was blessed to have worked with Dr. Rakov for many years. Since 1979, I have worked for several doctors, but no one ever compares to Dr. Rakov! He was one of a kind! Dr. Rakov was giving, patient, kind, compassionate, and a computer whiz! And these were just a few of the qualities he had. He also had a big sense of humor. He was always teasing me on how much older I was than him. It was just a difference of 4 months, but to hear him , it was like I was 10 years older! lol
Dr. Rakov loved his patients and his patients loved him. He treated each patient as if they were the only ones on the schedule. He never rushed through any appointment! He always said “quality over quantity.” Our patient rooms and hallways were filled with baby pictures. Babies that he delivered .
Like I mentioned before, Dr . Rakov was such a giving person. Every Christmas he would have us choose 10 families from the practice that we thought were having a difficult time. He would anonymously mail Christmas cards with gift cards to help the families during the holidays.
When my daughter and son in law found out that they were pregnant, they decided that they would travel from Snyder to Lamesa for their prenatal care. October 5, 2017 was a very special day! Dr. Rakov delivered my first grandchild! What a blessing to have my grandchild delivered by someone so special!
Dr. Rakov was more than someone I worked with. He was a friend. A true friend! Someone I could trust. Someone I could go to for advice. Someone I could share my highs and lows. Someone I could joke and laugh with. And if I ever needed help with the computer.... he was the man!
I had a hard time believing and accepting that Dr. Rakov had passed. But now he’s whole! He’s free! Dr. Rakov will be greatly missed, but he left a big legacy in Snyder with all the babies he delivered!
Dr. Rakov Sr, you raised an awesome son! Theresa, Alek, Emily, Y’all are in my prayers! ❤️ Y’all!

Prayers for all of the family and friends during your loss. He was a Amazing Dr that delivered both my children. My last child was a hard delivery that involved a c-section. If he was not persistent ( I wanted a natural delivery) to get me to have thr c section then my baby boy that is turning 7 in a few days would not have made it into the world! He knew his job n he served all of his patients with a caring heart. He would listen to you and explain to you if you did not understand. He always made sure that you left understanding your visit. Sending Love and Prayers for his Family and Friends. He Blessed so many peoples lives. He will Never be Forgotten.
