Virgil (“Virg”) Crouch, 85, of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at Sodalis Assisted Living and Memory Care in College Station, TX with two of his daughters, Amanda and Jessica, by his side. Virgil bravely fought a failing body and mind until he was graciously called home to Heaven.
Virgil enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating high school. During this time, he made lifelong friends that got to experience so many incredible things with him, like sailing around the North Pole in the Artic Circle or swimming through Pearl Harbor because he and his buddy were late for the ship’s departure. He loved sitting around a dinner table telling stories of his wild and mischievous times in the Navy and reminiscing of the people, places, and experiences that came with it.
Virgil was a provider. He was a dedicated and diligent man and to him, nothing was impossible. He loved building tool benches and tool sheds, dog houses and fences for all the dogs they had throughout the years, helping construct robotic dinosaurs for his daughter’s school play, installing intricate phone systems in commercial businesses, constructing large-scale irrigation systems, and countless other projects around the house and on the job. If you knew him, you knew that he always had to be doing something. Sitting still was not an option for him, and it remained this way until his last day on Earth.
Friendships for Virg were lifelong. He had countless stories of playing in the creek and hanging from railroad bridges as trains passed over, riding the bus to the movies as young boys with only a quarter between them, and cruising the strip in some sort of classic car on the weekends as teenagers trying to stay out of trouble. As an adult, these friendships persisted and evolved, and his group began taking annual golf trips which were something that he loved dearly.
But what Virgil loved most in this world was his family. He had 4 beautiful children throughout his life, and he was so incredibly proud of each of them. He adored his wife and traveled extensively to various exotic destinations with her. As long as there was a golf course nearby, he was happy. Once his children were grown, he experienced a love like no other when his grandchildren were born. He and Denise were doting grandparents and took to that new role so naturally and whole-heartedly. After Denise passed away, the grandchildren kept coming and Virgil continued their legacy as he loved and spoiled each and every one of them.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Opal Viola Turner-Williams and Winfred Crouch, his maternal grandparents, Benjamin F. and Oda Tyra, his sister, Barbara Burnett, and his wife, Denise Crouch.
Virgil is survived by his son, Jeff Crouch and wife Linda of Monroeville AL; his daughter, Nicole Cronin and husband Kevin, of Carrollton, TX; his daughter, Amanda Richards and husband Robert, of College Station, TX; and his daughter, Jessica Crouch and husband Will Schlottman, of Bryan, TX. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Cade and Cody Cronin, Ryan, Dylan, and Michael Richards, and Olivia Schlottman, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 3:00pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas Ave South, College Station, TX 77845.
Following the Memorial Service, the family will host an informal dinner gathering for all to attend.
