My heart is sad and glad.  Saddened due to the loss of such a great lady but at the same time glad because I believe in heaven and I know she is their preparing a place for her and Juan to spend eternity together. The first time I met her my first thought was a quote from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream 'Though she be but little she is fierce'.  I could tell right away that behind her gentle smile and calm demeanor was a lady who could move a mountain if she so desired.  When she spoke, you listened.  She was kindly in this manner and what she had to say was important and guiding.  In fact, to my wife, Julie, Vicky was the calm voice in and storm.  Vicki was also the one who called Julie to let her know the Desert Storm had started and that our tank battalion was now officially at war.  

Our two families have always been close.  CSM Juan took me under his wing while I was a young Captain and I prospered under his guidance and friendship.  Vickie’s three daughters babysat for us and were adopted members of our family.  Our daughters looked up to them and our son, “Wild Bill”, no doubt lived up to his name and they had to corral him.  Thank God that Vickie and Juan raised such a fine family.

Goodbyes are hard.  But at least the fond memories remain.  Julie and I will always have a special place in our heats for every member on the Chavez family.  And nothing can take that away from us. In a very real way, our families bonded even more so dur Desert Storm.  The relying on each other just strengthened the bond and did our work together during the Hurricane Katrina recovery mission. 

To my brother Juan, my daughters, Michele, Melissa and Erica and son Juan, I wish you all the strength you need to move forward, without forgetting the kind thoughts from the past.  God Bless and be happy that Vickie had her time to walk this earth and knowing that she walked it well and left a special indelible mark has she traveled the life she was given.


Our deepest sympathies to the Chavez-Barron family during this time of the loss of Hna. Vicky. We will miss her  smile and love for our family. May Hna. Vicky rest in peace and give comfort to brother Juan and the family. Our prayers will continue. 🙏

To my Nana- There are no words to describe how much I miss the days we used to spend as kids at Nana's and Papa's house. The summer trips we used to take to College Station filled me with joy and excitement when I would jump out of the car and Nana would be waiting with a big hug. Most of all I loved the Christmases we spent here and the plays the kids acted in. Nana would make the costumes for the Nativity Story and all of us kids would try our hardest to stay on script. I will always miss the smell of her cooking, making tortillas together, and our Loteria Nights

Birthdays were always a big deal in my Nana's house. She always found a way to make the impossible possible when it came to themes and costumes. Do you want a petting zoo? Sure. Do you want to be 50s greasers with slick T-Bird jackets? Done. 
One of my fondest memories of Nana took place during my 8th or 9th birthday. During that time I was extremely into superheroes and wanted nothing more than to be the incredible hulk. Not a particularly easy hero to be. My Nana, in a flurry of textiles and puffy cotton, constructed a suit that made me feel larger than life. Big green bulging muscles, and ripped purple pants, all made from scratch. For that day, I was the strongest, most powerful kid in the world.

To my mother-law,  I have so many memories that we share from working outside, to  practicing  Spanish words. Im going to miss you trying to scare us in the house. Thank you for spoiling our fur babies and teaching them their body parts.  You will be truly miss. We love and miss you.

As I sit here trying to think of a favorite memory, I struggle to narrow down just one.  My first memory of Vicky happened the first day I met the family.  I was a terrified private and was finally granted access into the Chavez household.  As the CSM gave me a “talking to”,  Vicky and Michele hid in the kitchen making sure I said the right things.  I am forever grateful for that first encounter because it led to a lifetime of laughs and  love.  Thank you for my special “chile” and always being there for us through the years.  You will forever be missed.  Love Jason

My Aunt Vicki’s smile and laugh! In every memory I have of her she’s laughing and smiling! Or shouting “Missie Valdez” “Missy Chavez” when she tried to get our attention. I remember always feeling loved and protected. And having her cheer me on no matter what I was doing! She showed me love! She taught me that family always comes first. I will  forever have her in my heart.  

Mommy, it's hard to write a memory when I'm not ready to let you go. I was honored to be by your side as much as possible during your last days. As always,  you demonstrated strength and endurance even in your wavering state for all of us. Those moments allowed me to be closer to you than I ever was. I believe you are living peacefully happy with Jesus now and that brings me comfort. It will take time but I'll get there. I love you mama. 

I have lots of memories of  my sweet aunt. Her laugh and her smile. When I was at my worst moment my uncle John and aunt Vickie came over to my parents house. They took us to lunch, and my dad smiled and ate really good that day. I was Heart broken to see them  leave because they were sunshine to me. And I took a picture of them and my aunt was be silly trying to make me laugh while I was taking the picture. She seem to always have a permanent smile on.  I will always cherish her in my heart.

One of the memories I hold dear for Nana was one we always joked about at home - one of her superpowers, Nana Hands! Whenever we cooked a meal involving tortillas, she would always just lay the tortillas in the pan, and then using her bare hand, grab them and flip them when they were ready. Having attempted this several times myself, I can tell you that those tortillas are HOT. This continued into a trend where we would all strive to be as strong and brave as Nana, and try to maintain tortilla duty just as she would- with bare hands, fearless in the face of fire. Needless to say, it's been a hard skill to master (looking at you, Taylor!). 
But that's the beauty of it; Nana was a strong, fierce, passionate woman, and this was reflected not only in the hardiness of her hands, which carried much love and strength throughout the years, but in her character and mentality as well. One day, I hope we can all be as great as Nana, and gain the strength to carry the fire in our own hands. 

There are no words to ease the sorrow of the loss of a loved one. So i choose these to try. Mrs. Chavez we will gather for you to ensure your memory never fades. Mrs. Chavez save a seat at the table that our Father has set. Thank you for the lessons you shared. I am blessed to have had the privilege of knowing you. For the first time no words will safice. 

My Babylove,  Sharing a life with you for the past Fifty Four years has been special to me in every way imaginable. From the first time I set eyes on you I knew you were my soul mate for life. The glint in your eyes told me you felt the same way for me! At 17 years of age many said our marriage didn't stand a chance.  Now, more than half a century together many want to know the secret to our marriage. I simply say these three words; Love, Dignity and Respect for one another. That's what sustained us all these years and what will sustain me the remaing years of my life. I will rememer you always and will see your face in each of our children and grand children. When I see our friends they will say kind words of you because you were always a friend maker. I will hear songs we used to sing and hear your voice.  I will love you always.  My prayer to God these past 105 days has been to grant me one more day to be with with you. Now I ask God to grant me one more request...allow me to find you in heaven so we can be together again...I love you My Babylove!

I have known Mr. and Mrs. Chavez for only a short time.  What a blessing Mrs. Chavez was.  I did not share a lot of time with them but the time I did spend, it was easy to see how much they loved each other.  I remember the first day I met them and they were talking about the freight hauling business they had together.  They just loved the time they were able to share together every day and the business allowed her to always be with him.  They were so special together and I remember telling my husband about them, may we all strive to have the same kind of love that they shared.  My condolences and prayers to Mr. Chavez and the entire family!  

We had so many family memories together! I loved every Christmas because I knew we would be able to come see y’all! Vicky and mom would always cook together! Loved those homemade tortillas! She was the best. Just like a second mother back then! Love y’all and praying the lord will place his hand upon the family! The Ashley’s love y’all!

I don't have a childhood memory without Vicki in it. My mother and Vicki used to stay on the dance floor. I know they have reunited in heaven.  She was such a sweet beautiful soul. She was a great mother and wife. She was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.

You will be deeply missed you were so kind and giving I will miss you from the bottom of my heart until we meet again my dear one love always Lenea Coler 

I am so saddened to hear the loss of such an amazing person. I worked many hours with Vicky at St. J. Manor for the four and 1/2 years of being there. She had such a wonderful personality, always wearing the brightest scrubs to match that amazing smile. Even her cute French nails. She would bring so much joy to our patients. Encouraging  patients to do what they can do for themselves. I remember how static Vicky was when she became the one to use the bladder scanner for a new program our DON Sharon Ortiz had developed. She always spoke so lovingly about her family. The way she would talk about her husband, and their love story was so inspiring. Your family is in my prayers. Sending so much love. 

I have so many good memories of my sister, she always took care of me and helped me with whatever I needed.  Vicky brought me to stay with her and she and her husband Juan built me my own little place to live for that and everything she has done for me, I will always be grateful.

I remember the time that Juan bet Vicky $50 that she couldn't do 50 pushups.  She proceeded to show him right there in their office. And yes, he paid her $50. Good memories!

Miss Vicki was the sweetest lady when we worked together as CNA’s I could always count on her for help and a smile. And on Facebook we shared our love for animals. I’m keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers. 

Mom, the day I got married and you helped me put on my wedding gown and shoes.  You said to me, “ I love you”  and kissed me on my forehead as if I was child.  We hugged and you squeezed tight trying not to cry.
