Anna Cornelia Allen was escorted into Heaven by her Lord and Savior on November 24 in Littleton, CO, without a walker and standing tall. She was reunited with the preacher she married 72 years ago, Dr. John Henry Allen, whom she’s missed so very much! Who’s probably taken her on a whirlwind tour through Heaven, doting on her to everyone about how pretty she is.
Anna was born on August 25, 1931, in Kalamazoo, MI. Her parents were Harm and Winifred Scholten Hoeksema of MI and TX.
She married John Henry Allen on June 17, 1949, in Fort Worth, TX. They were married 56 years until John joined his Savior in 2008.
Anna is survived by her children, Mary Ann Bowen of Hephzibah, GA, and Brian Earl Allen of Denver, CO, five grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Rachel Hill of Fort Worth, TX, Harold Hoeksema of Bluefield, WV, and Arlene Goff of Littleton, CO.
Anna loved to sing and play the piano. She started a kindergarten at the church the family attended in Georgia and taught 1st and 2nd graders with dyslexia in Anchorage, Alaska. She traveled with John to England, Europe, Asia, Panama, and other countries as his work led him to teach others about starting new churches.
After Anna and John retired, they moved to a senior community in Texas where she developed a choir of seniors for worship in the community’s chapel. The choir also proudly performed at such places as nursing homes.
Anna was an incredible mom! She loved her children without reservation. She loved the life God opened to her, even in the most difficult of times. Hand and hand with John, they followed where they felt the Lord lead. God blessed their lives together, and now they are together again in His presence for eternity.
Her memorial service will be on January 5, 2022, at 3pm, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, TX.
