

Bernie K. Head, Jr., 62 years old of Keller, Texas, left this earth to be with his heavenly father, Wednesday, November 5th, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Sr. and Maureen Head, and brother Tommy Head. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hyla Head of Keller, daughters Stacey Danford and husband, Hank of Fort Worth, Shelley Simon and husband, Jonathon of Ponder, and Sara Head and Melanie Zilles-Head of Roanoke, grandchildren Brock Danford, Kennedy and Kloey Simon, sister Anna Cox of Radcliff, Kentucky, brother Frank Head of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and his loyal dog Bimper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2014 Willis Lane, Keller, with Father Dennis Smith celebrating Mass and Deacon Gutbier assisting on the altar. The holy rosary will be recited by Deacon Don Warner at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, with another service celebrating Bernie's life following at 5 p.m.
Bernie was born on December 18, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a 1971 graduate of North Hardin High School, Radcliff, Kentucky. He was the 1971 Kentucky State High School Heavy Weight Wrestling Champion, as well as being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the state of Kentucky that year. He was inducted into the North Hardin High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. He attended the University of Tulsa on a full athletic scholarship for football. He graduated in 1976 with his Bachelor’s of Science in Education. He was a 13th round draft choice by the Miami Dolphins in 1976. He received his Masters degree in 1981 from the University of Tulsa.
During his career, Bernie taught and coached at Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked in sales and marketing for Sagebrush Pipeline and Nordam in Tulsa. Bernie transferred to Nordam Texas in Fort Worth in 1993. He also worked in marketing and sales for other various aviation companies, retiring from FiberArt in January 2014.
Bernie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, fishing, swimming, bicycling and golfing. Bernie continued his passion for wrestling as a Master Official for the North Texas DFW Chapter of the Texas Wrestling Officials Association. He was chosen numerous times to officiate Texas State High School wrestling tournaments. As a member of the University of Tulsa Letterman’s Association, he was an active alumnus and loved attending Tulsa Golden Hurricane football games. Bernie was a long-time member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas.
Bernie will be remembered for the love he showed his family and friends. He was big in stature and as kind hearted as they come; a tenacious worker who poured his heart and soul into everything he did, always putting others first. He was a true role model, impacting the lives of so many people who crossed his path. He was his girls’ biggest champion and their #1 fan. His legacy lives on in the lives of those who knew him.
