Born to Erasmo and Ana Zendejas, Bertha grew up in a household with basic core values and strong work ethics that would shape her life. These life traits were instilled in her by her mother at the young age of 7, after the passing of her father. On May 21, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart and embarked on a lifelong journey, sharing a bond that endured 70 years until his passing in 2019.
Bertha was a pillar of strength and devotion to her family, dedicating herself to her role as a homemaker. She particularly enjoyed two of her passions: bowling and visits to the salon for her hair, where she cherished the camaraderie and the opportunity to feel her best.
Anyone who ever knew her knew that she loved her beer! You never left her house empty-handed. If she wasn’t trying to give you some of her jewelry or household items, she would send you home with a 6-pack of beer. Bertha was known for her generosity and kindness. Throughout her journey through life, Bertha faced both joys and sorrows with unwavering grace, leaving behind cherished memories and a deep imprint on the hearts of all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Erasmo and Ana Zendejas, her daughter Anna Tellez, loving husband Andrew B. Tellez, sisters Carmen Barrera and Celia Alaniz, brother Robert Zendejas, and son-in-law Steven Zauft.
Bertha is survived by her devoted daughters, Sonia Brady and Donna Zauft, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her grandchildren: Eric Rodriguez (Jennifer), Stacy Duke (Randy), Ashley Colgan (Patrick), and Courtney Chodkiewicz (Hubert). Additionally, Bertha is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Zoey, Mia, Brooklyn, Davis, Bennett, Mila, Callum, and Weston.
Bertha Zendejas Tellez will be remembered for her feisty spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and the countless lives she touched with her tenacity. As we mourn her passing, may we also celebrate the love and warmth she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be a beacon of light in the lives of those she loved and who loved her in return.
