Bettie L. Hinkle, age 77, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Bettie was born to a sharecropper in 1939. She proudly remembered that her mother sewed dresses for her from the cloth bags that held flour. As a young child, Bettie loved school. Her love for reading carried through to adulthood as evidenced by her collection of books and frequent trips to the public library.
In the mid-1950's, Bettie's church in Canton, Texas welcomed a new unmarried pastor named Vall Hinkle. After a short courtship, Vall and Bettie married in a simple ceremony at the church. The temperature in August in East Texas caused the candles to melt before the ceremony began. Bettie often told of the friend who hurried to restore the candles by dousing them in ice water before the wedding.
Bettie was married to Vall A. Hinkle for over 35 years and loved being a pastor's wife. Bettie and Vall helped found North Park Baptist Church in the early 1970's.
Throughout her life Bettie worked in many capacities. She was employed with the federal government in Fort Worth, something she spoke of with pride. Later, she cared for children in her home. She also performed clerical work in a number of locations before going to work for JoAnn Fabric (formerly Cloth World). Her employment with JoAnn's continued until her retirement. Following that, Bettie, who could not tolerate idleness, worked part time in the day care at North Park Baptist Church for several years.
Bettie was an avid reader, frequent traveler, and loving mother. She loved and was loved and was the thread that knit her family together. She is preceded in death by her husband Vall Hinkle, her parents, Bryan and Gladys Bedingfield, and her brother James. She is survived by her children; Charles David Hinkle and wife Lyn of Colorado Springs, CO.; Philip Wayne Hinkle and wife Michelle of Fort Worth, TX.; Karen Larraine Hill and husband Gregg of Houston, TX.; her brothers, Wylie and Thomas Bedingfield; grandchildren, Bryan, Geoffrey and wife Diana, Bethany, Kailey and husband Tyler, Kevin, Emily and husband Bobby, Joshua and wife Natalie, Luke, Paul and one great grandchild Miles. Bettie is also survived by her frequent companion Bill Brandhurst of Watauga.
