Billy James Hurt

Billy was born on April 1, 1933 in Hickman, Kentucky. He was the son of James and Cora Hurt. Billy grew up in Hickman, Kentucky.

Billy was raised with eight siblings. Billy was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings shared many life experiences over the years.

Billy graduated high school as valedictorian, he went on to earn his bachelor’s in math and physics from TCU.

Billy exchanged wedding vows with Mary Elizabeth Davis, they were married for 61 years.

Billy worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Billy was blessed with one son, Billy and two daughters, Terrie and Valerie. Another blessing for Billy was the gift of two grandsons, David and Sean.

Fortunately, Billy enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Billy worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. He worked as a computer programmer in the 1950's and 1960's, notably working for the Apollo space program. He retired from Vought Aircraft Company in 1988 after over 30 years of service.

Billy enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Billy was very active with his family and went on vacation to the beach every year. He loved to fish and hunt, attend gun shows and tend his garden. Billy loved basketball and TCU football.

Billy passed away on November 19, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. Billy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary D. Hurt; daughters, Terrie L. Hurt, Valerie H. McGregor and husband, Scott McGregor; grandchildren, David B. And Sean C. McGregor. Services were held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Colleyville, Texas. Billy was laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery in Grandview, Texas.

Billy was an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Billy leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Billy James Hurt.

Billy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary D. Hurt; daughters, Terrie L. Hurt, Valerie H. McGregor and husband, Scott McGregor; grandchildren, David B. and Sean C. McGregor.
