Bonnie loved Virginia. Her stories about her life there were endless, entertaining & fascinating. She grew up in a two-room log cabin with her parents (Lewis & Lois Jordan), three brothers & one sister; Bonnie was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. There was no indoor electricity, no indoor plumbing or running water in that cabin. She & her younger sister often slept in the crib together. They walked to most places, but Bonnie enjoyed that because she loved nature & flowers. She loved it when the Book-Mobile would come around so she could trade the books she had read for new ones. She & her mother would wash clothes in the creek. They raised their own food including chickens & pigs, veggies & fruit. Everything they did was a challenge, but to them, it was just their way of life. She & her family moved to a larger house before they made their way to Texas in the mid-50’s when Bonnie was in Jr. High. Leaving her remaining grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends behind in Virginia devastated her. She adjusted after a while, but it left a mark on her heart for the rest of her life.
Bonnie loved church! She did everything she could to attend her church in Virginia, The Church of God at Red Hill in Boones Mill. Her paternal “country” grandmother, Granny Jordan, played the piano & led the singing, and Bonnie loved every minute at that church. If you sat down with her long enough, even recently, you would have heard about her love of this church. She also had a “city” grandmother, Granny Brammer, whom she loved & adored and who was also involved in her own church which Bonnie loved to attend as well. Once her family moved to Texas, she did everything in her power to attend church at her next church home, Birdville Baptist Church in Haltom City. She loved Brother Dwaine Greene and Dr. Tom Howe as her preachers. Bonnie was one of the teachers for her “Purple” Sunday School class & she loved everyone who attended.
In 1962, Bonnie gave birth to her son James Edward Chambers, Jr., and a short 15 months later, she gave birth to her daughter, Rhonda Marie Chambers. She was the best Mom ever. She loved her kids unconditionally, through thick & thin, till the very end. We always knew she was there for us, no matter what. If we could choose our own Momma out of all the others, we would have chosen her over & over. There are so many happy memories of our lives with our sweet Momma, Bonnie.
In 1973, she encountered an old acquaintance & fellow church member, Gary Renegar. That meeting was legendary. If you know, you know! They began dating soon after that meeting then in 1975 Gary proposed, and they were married in the chapel at Birdville Baptist Church on May 1, 1975. Their lives were full of adventure, travel, family & friends. They frequented Las Vegas, Hawaii, Virginia & North Carolina over the years. They experienced lots of love & fun, but they also experienced tough battles & challenges along the way including Bonnie’s breast cancer diagnosis in March 1984. Thankfully she remained cancer-free for 41+ years. Bonnie & Gary recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary on May 1, 2025, surrounded by friends & family.
Bonnie worked very hard in school in Texas to prove she was as smart as the others, always wanting to make her family & teachers proud. From early on in Jr. High, she was blessed with a mentor named Dr. Don Williams who ended up being her cherished brother-in-law in 1975 (Dr. Don was married to Gary’s sister, Jeanette). Bonnie’s dream was to become a teacher, so she earned her GED. Dr Don was instrumental in getting her involved in a program called “Project Child Find” at Birdville ISD where children in the district were located & identified as “high risk” then were served based on those needs. She was very passionate about this program. Bonnie then attended TCJC & earned her Associates in Arts degree in 1989. It took her longer than expected at TCJC because she battled & beat breast cancer beginning in 1984. She began student teaching with special ed children at various Birdville ISD campuses. Bonnie went on to Texas Wesleyan University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1992, all with the encouragement & support of her family, friends, & Dr. Don. She worked as a Reading teacher at North Ridge Middle School and Smithfield Jr. High. She was so proud, and everyone was so proud of her. She loved every moment and every child during her years of teaching. She retired from teaching in 2002.
Bonnie loved reading (she was in a beloved book club with her teacher friends for years). She loved to sew and had a willing student in Rhonda and took great pride & patience to teach her everything she knew. Bonnie gave Rhonda her beloved Signature sewing machine that she had since 1962 at Christmas years ago after fibbing that she gave it away; actually, it was actually in the shop being oiled & cleaned. Rhonda still sews on that old Signature machine & cherishes it to this day. Bonnie loved to bake, mostly to give away to others, so if you received anything baked by her, it was made with love. Her German Chocolate Cake and her Coconut Cream Pies were heavenly. She loved her cats, most recently Sassy. She loved her family & friends fiercely. When she became a grandmother to Will & Randi, she couldn’t get enough time & love from them; she wanted to be with them as much as possible. Bonnie & Gary attended just about all the activities, games & events in which Will & Randi participated. When she became a great-grandmother to Wyatt & Rylie, she was so excited. She loved them so much!
Bonnie would not want you to be sad that she’s gone. She would want you to celebrate life, enjoy every moment, go to the beach, stop & smell the flowers, read a good book, dance to your favorite song, love Jesus, worship God, and live your best life.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis & Lois Jordan; her brother, Donnie Jordan; and her beloved mentor & brother-in-law, Dr. Don Williams & his wife, Jeanette.
