

Born in Big Sandy, Texas, in 1933 to Marshall and Martha Short, Buddy grew up with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and service. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth before proudly serving in the United States Navy for three years during the Korean War. His time in the Navy shaped his character—steady, loyal, and untiringly strong.
After completing his military service, Buddy began a long and dedicated career with General Motors in Arlington, Texas. Over the course of 38 years, he became known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and the friendships he built along the way.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gloria Ann Short.
He leaves behind his most beloved and devoted wife of 71 years, Joan Patricia (Gudith) Short, who remained the center of his world throughout their long life together. He is also survived by his sons Mark Short and wife Kay, and Keith Short and wife Caroline. Buddy cherished his grandchildren—Shannon Short, Sarah Denney, and Joshua Short—and delighted in watching his family grow to include great-grandchildren Lane Morris, LeAnn Hayward, and Alexis Morris, and great-great-grandchildren Mercury Hayward and Mackenzie Morris.
Buddy’s life was rich with the love of family, the loyalty of close friends, and the quiet joys of a life well lived. He will be remembered for his service to others, his unwavering devotion to those he loved, and the legacy of kindness and steadiness he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered by those he loved and cherished.
Buddy was laid to rest at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park on February 18th, 2026.
