Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have known her. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Gillie Nichols and grandson, Peter Cross. Left to cherish Carolyn's memory is her husband of 60 years, Leon Kahler; sister Rita Watson; children: Blaine Kahler and wife Susan Kahler of Grapevine, TX, Julie Kahler of Greenville, SC, Shawn Lutz and husband John Lutz of Greer, SC, and Kerry Kahler and husband Ernie Morin of Colleyville, TX; grandchildren: Benjamin Cross, Lukas Cross and wife Randi Cross, Lily Boswell (all fromTX), Morgan Graybill and husband Brian Graybill, Meredith Lutz (all from SC), and Micah Lutz (from AL); great grandchildren Taylor and Judah. Nick was a special, gentle soul - never known by her children to be cross or impatient - eager to teach and share beauty in any way she could. She had an endearing sense of humor, and a clever dry wit, which she never lost through years of relentless pain. She loved music, teaching each of her children and grandchildren to do the same. She delighted in flowers and gardens, and could often be seen examining each beautiful plant in detail. She was fascinated by rocks, minerals, and fossils - treasures of the earth - and taught others to see the amazing workmanship of God in even the humblest of places. She was kind to all animals, but especially treasured her kitties. Heaven will be well-populated by the cats and kittens her family has loved through the years! Nick was an English teacher by trade, a favorite amongst her students, but was also an especially good teacher to her own children and grandchildren. From her, they learned about music, the arts, and culture in its many forms. There were frequent visits to concerts, museums, the theatre, and of course, the zoo! Through camping excursions, and in conjunction with her husband's job as a pilot, she introduced to her offspring many of the wonders of our beautiful world. She always encouraged her children and students to excel at school, in sports, in extra-curricular activities, and in all manner of excellence to the glory of God. She taught, and faithfully demonstrated, the importance of honoring family, no matter what. Above all, through her faithful example, she taught that there is no higher calling than to walk worthy of our Creator and God. Today, she walks with Him in heaven. Her family and friends will forever love and honor her for all she gave, and will forever thank God for all they were so blessed to receive.
