Carolyn Fern Love was born on August 20, 1946, to Billie Fern Wheeler and Celeste Newsom on a warm, sunny day in Dallas, TX. There are some souls who move through the world with such light, laughter, and love that they leave it a little brighter just by being here. Carolyn was one of those rare souls that made the world so much better. By all accounts, she was a rambunctious child with a wit and humor that was unmatched. This very sense of humor would carry her through some of the hardest days of her life.
Carolyn married the love of her life, James Love, on January 27th, 1967. They had two beautiful children-Candace and Demmie. She was a devoted wife and now joyfully reunited with her partner in laughter, love, and dancing. Together they built a home filled with warmth, silliness, and love. Their story is the kind of love that true love stories are made of.
To her daughters, Canny-Bon and Demmie Sue, she was a fierce protector, a tireless supporter, and the first one to fight for them. Her love and care for them was endless. To her grandkids, she was “Grandmaw,” the queen of random songs, hugs, and belly laughs after one of her dance outbursts. One of proudest titles came later in life when her two great grandbabies came along and named her “Nene”. She wore this title like badge of honor. They were her heart’s encore, and she wanted everyone to know and hear that encore.
A passionate nurse through and through, she poured her heart into caring for others. It didn’t matter where or what season of life you were in; it didn’t matter if you were a stranger, patient, colleague, family, or friend; she cared deeply for you. Nursing wasn’t just her profession; it was her calling, her ministry of life. Even after retirement, she never fully clocked out. She had the kind of humor that could make even the hardest days feel lighter. Many of her friends lovingly knew her as “Cardine” or “Clove.” She was loyal, quick-witted, and always down for a good laugh (or a little harmless trouble).
Carolyn brought life everywhere that she went, even if it was a little wilted. If heaven has flower beds, she’s already out there watering and chatting with the blooms. She could bring life back into any plant and the plants just seemed to know she loved them.
Her zest for life was contagious, and no one wanted to be here more than her. Carolyn fought for and lived her life fully with open arms.
She leaves behind a family and circle of friends who will miss her fiercely but smile through their tears knowing she’s now home, dancing again with her beloved Woody, in a garden that never fades or wilts.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Woodrow Love; mother, Billie Fern Wheeler; and son in law Michael Alexander. Along with numerous family members that were there to greet her when she arrived.
She will be forever missed here on earth by her eldest daughter Candace Alexander-Healy (husband Patrick; her youngest daughter Demmie Sue Love; two granddaughters, Amanda Gorman (husband Joel), Erica Rutlidge (husband Chase); two great grandbabies, Preslee Rutlidge and Michael Gorman. Along with numerous cousins and friends.
