A loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, and the most trustworthy friend you could ever want. On November 21 Charlie joined our Lord in Heaven and was surely welcomed with the words “a job well done.” Words simply cannot express how much he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charlie was born in Breckenridge, Texas the 2nd son of R. D. Maloney and Ima Rae Owens Maloney. He was a graduate of Diamond Hill High School in Fort Worth, Texas and briefly attended Texas Christian University. During the Korean War, Charlie proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950-1953. Honorably discharged, he married Virginia Yvonne Wright affectionately known as “Ginger.” They were blessed with three wonderful sons Randy Charles, Mark Alan, and David Anthony. After 36 years of dancing, dining, working, and traveling the world together, Ginger lost her brave battle to cancer.
Charlie was in the flooring business from 1953-2018, quite an accomplishment. He began working with his brother Robert at Diamond Floors in Fort Worth, Texas soon opening his own business Irving Floors in Irving, Texas. As his business flourished, he purchased Floor Mart, Inc. where his legacy will proudly continue. He was always there for friends and most of all for family.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing and just plain socializing. He was Mr. Action, never slowing down. Charlie loved people and people loved him. Amazingly he could build or repair almost anything. Among the many things he built were boats, numerous buildings, motorcycles, a bridge and windmill towers. We feel he could have certainly constructed a pyramid if asked. Watching him glide thru life always smiling, happy to help anyone made us wonder if there ever was a mountain to high or a river to wide for him.
Thirteen years after Gingers’ passing Charlie began another wonderful journey. He met Robbie Joan Peterson whom just happened to be his new neighbor. Joan had lost her husband 5 years earlier. With some help from his two granddaughters asking to play on the neighbor’s swing-set, he soon opened a passage thru the fence and became friends with Joan. Very quickly they were inseparable and married. Charlie was very active in the North Texas Square and Round Dance Association serving in almost every office including President. Together they continued to serve as officers. Keeping up with Charlie and Joan became quite a challenge as they danced and cruised around the world. Soon the two families were seamlessly blended together. The blended family consisting of five children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren with one more on the way. Everyone loved Charlie. He was kind, gentle, patient, thoughtful, generous, and sometimes grumpy but always a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, loved by all missed by all. Christmas parties, Sunday school class, square dance clubs, family gatherings it was come one come all to their home. The members of Joan’s Garden Club always looked forward to their visit from Santa Charlie at their Christmas parties. Charlie lived life full speed ahead and enjoyed every minute of it, touching so many lives along the way.
