Leo was a devoted husband, father, and friend whose humor, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him. He was deeply devoted to his family and his country.
At just 17 years old, Leo voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country as a Sargent with courage and honor. He completed three tours in Vietnam as a sniper and a field radio operator, earning numerous medals and commendations during his service. His time in the Marines shaped who he was — strong, resilient, and deeply patriotic.
After returning home, Leo worked for Southern Bell as a lineman, building a life grounded in hard work and integrity.
Leo was a prolific reader and loved crossword puzzles and trivia. He enjoyed music and in his younger days fishing the Florida Everglades. He had a soft heart for animals and adored his dogs and cats, who were always close by.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jolene, his daughter Heather Ballard, his son James Wesley Cook, his son-in-law Jim Ballard, and his daughter-in-law Brandi Cook. He is also survived by his sister Cindi Masters and his niece Megan Gonzalez.
Leo will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, humor, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the laughter, stories, and memories he leaves behind — and in the many lives he touched along the way.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Leo's funeral mass will be held on January 8th, 11 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church 5201 Cross Timbers Rd. Flower Mound, TX 75022. Following mass, there will be a Celebration of Life service at Heather and Jim Ballard's home.
Per his wishes, Leo will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
