Clyde Ray Stephens died peacefully on May 17, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on October 20, 1934 in Silverton, Texas, to Claud Mack and Otha Lee Etta Cavitt Stephens. He was the youngest of eight children.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Delores Woodruff Stephens who died in 2013, and by his infant son Randall Clyde Stephens, who died in 1967. Clyde is survived by his three daughters, Terry Alvarado and husband Ramon, Karen Schrader and husband Mark, and Carla Rymer and husband Eric, and his grandchildren Tony Alvarado and wife Kami, John Alvarado and wife Brenda, Aaron Gilland and wife Ashley, Bailey White and husband Zac, Clayton Gilland, and Sarah Schrader. He has ten great-grandchildren.
A cowboy at heart, Clyde began his early work career as a hand on the Swenson Ranch, under John Selman. He had an eye for good horses and was a hard worker.
While working for the railroad, he met the love of his life and had to sell his horse and saddle to buy her a wedding ring, a decision he never regretted.
In 1954 Clyde married Delores Woodruff. They began their family while living in Arlington, Texas. Clyde’s interests took him to many jobs and various cities. He eventually took a job with Bell Helicopter in Hurst and remained there until he retired after 25 years of service.
Clyde was active in Cowboys for Christ, and he served for many years as a deacon and elder of First Assembly of God in Colleyville, now known as Journey Church. He had a love of music and often shared his faith through his original songs. He played guitar and sang in church frequently. He enjoyed helping with the youth and was a father figure to many.
Visitation will be at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville on Tuesday, May 25 from 5-7 PM. His memorial service will be held at Journey Church in Colleyville Wednesday, May 26 at 2 PM, graveside ceremony to follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
