Clydia Lott Askew
June 15, 1928 – November 8, 2018
Clydia Lott Askew of Bedford, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018. She blessed us all by being a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Clydia was born in Odell, Texas, on June 15, 1928, to Herman Clyde and Elsie Lott. They moved to Haltom City when she was three years old. Clydia graduated from the original Birdville High School in 1945. After a few years as a bookkeeper at Texas Water Company, she changed her profession to wife,mother and volunteer. Clydia served in PTA for 30 years in Birdville and HEB school districts. She held many PTA offices including President of North Richland Elementary, Shady Brook Elementary and Birdville Council. Clydia was honored with both Texas and National PTA Life memberships. She helped organize and served on the first North Richland Hills Library Board and the Town Hall Committee. Other volunteer work included Salvation Army Toy Store, March of Dimes, Northeast Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Bethlehem Center and NEED. Her love of children led her to become a Cub Scout Den Mother and Bluebird Leader. Clydia was a charter member of Davis Memorial UMC in North Richland Hills since 1959. She held many offices including Chairman of the Administrative Board. She taught children and youth Sunday School classes, as well as Vacation Bible School for 46 years. She also held many offices in UMW. On more than one occasion, Clydia was known to go for weeks at a time to help loved ones recover from surgery or with new babies.
Clydia is preceded in death by husband, Hollis Askew and daughter, Vicki Lynne Askew. She is also preceded by sisters, Ellese Kawka and Jean Kirby, and brother HC Lott.
Clydia is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Vicki Askew of Bedford; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Stayton PettyJohn of Grapevine; sisters, Jo Duckett and Johnnie Sue Steele, both of Roanoke; sister-in-law Jean Tharp of Hurst; grandchildren Amy Dieterich and husband Chris, Jason Askew and wife Colleen, Morgan PettyJohn and husband Tyler, and Austin PettyJohn and wife Sydney; great-grandchildren Nick, Teagan, Braeden, Connor and Ainsley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved like they were her own.
Our lives are forever changed because of her.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00PM on Saturday, November 17 at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville. Funeral Services will be at 3:00PM on Sunday, November 18 at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Davis Memorial United Methodist Church.
