Dan was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, and grew up in a family of 10 in the nearby town of Pollock. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served four years in Japan, Hawaii and Georgia, rising to the rank of Corporal.
When he completed his military service, he moved back to his native Louisiana, where he worked on logistics issues for the Missouri Pacific railroad for a decade, before taking a management position with Ethyl Corporation, later Albemarle Chemical Company, until he retired. His faith and family were at the center of his life, and his favorite role was being “Papa” to his grandsons, Brian and Jason. They were his pride and joy.
Dan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; his daughter, Jennifer Meade McCarthy, and his son-in-law Patrick; and his grandsons Brian and Jason. He is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Meade and Betty Meade Boren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Jewell; three brothers, Carroll, Hershel and Bobby; and two sisters, Charlene Meade Evans and Cathy Meade Slaughter.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Thursday, December 22, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, in Colleyville, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10 am, with the service to follow at 11 am. Graveside and Marine Corps Funeral Honors will commence at noon.
