Danny Kay Walker was born April 27, 1945, in Abilene, Texas, to Lutie Clarence Walker and Opal Macklin. He passed away September 30, 2026, at Sage Oak Memory and Assisted Living Facility in Colleyville, Texas.
As a teenager, Danny developed a special interest in cars. His parents encouraged him to earn money for a new car every other year, so as a high school freshman, he took newspaper delivery routes for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Abilene Reporter-News. After graduating from Abilene High School, he enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University and continued delivering newspapers. He later transferred to Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth and took a part-time job at a finance company, where he began financing health club memberships. For more than twenty years, he owned several health clubs and continued financing memberships through a company he founded.
After selling his health clubs, Danny purchased Mid Cities Mustang, where he worked for another twenty years. He loved talking about cars every day and pursued his passion for collecting 1950s- and 1960s-era Thunderbirds and Mustangs. He also collected vintage jukeboxes, organizing each one by artists from the 1950s and 1960s. Elvis Presley was his favorite, and one jukebox held a collection of Elvis 45s. He also cherished caring for his two miniature donkeys, Lil Fella and Nicholas.
Danny especially valued his work with the Colleyville Lions Club, including Breakfast with Santa and the annual Easter Egg Festival. He also enjoyed serving as a greeter at the 8:30 a.m. services at Cross Creek Church in Colleyville.
Danny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Velma; his son, David; his daughter-in-law, Gigi; and his granddaughter, Reagan, of whom he was especially proud.
A celebration of Danny's life will be held at 11:00 am with a reception following on Thursday, October 8, both at CrossCreek Church, 5300 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Danny’s name be made to the Colleyville Lions Club, P.O. Box 536, Colleyville, Texas 76034 (https://clc-foundation.square.site/#ZBWHMX)
