Dave was born on April 29th,1954 in Hatfield, Massachusetts to James Lee and Ella Wood. He was the middle child of 5, a fact he would never let us forget.
At the age of 16, he started attending the New York Institute for the Education of the Blind, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Suarez. The two were just friends at this point in time and rekindled their friendship several years later after fate aligned their paths once again in a small pizza shop in the middle of a city of millions.
After completing his Bachelors degree in Transportation at St. John's University, Dave began his career with Caltex Petroleum in Manhattan in 1977 as a Demurrage Claims Specialist. In 1981 he obtained his Master's Degree in business from Fordham University. A few years after moving to Texas with Caltex, he joined GTE/Verizon in the Database Marketing Department where he remained until he elected to become a full-time cabana boy at home in 2009. Dave and Nancy moved to Texas in 1982 and started raising their blended family in a home filled with love, laughter, music, a little chaos, and a weekly sampling of the best NY pizza they could get their hands on in DFW. Dave loved championship-caliber football, thus renouncing his Cowboys fandom decades ago. Instead, he devoted himself to the Alabama Crimson Tide, and his wardrobe never strayed from a daily dose of some shade of crimson.
While it may have seemed to outsiders he was perfect, his biggest regret always remained that he voted for Jimmy Carter and tarnished his otherwise flawless conservative voting record. Dave will always be remembered as a dedicated husband, supportive father, loving Grandpa, overzealous dog dad, and the world’s best backseat driver.
Dave is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter Liz, son Jason (Kim), son Jeff (Julia), daughter Jessi (Brandon); mother Ella; siblings Richard, Jimmy (Charlotte), Sue (Bob), Debbie (Allan); brother-in-law Benny; sister-in-law Egda (Jeff); grandchildren D’Anthony, Baylee, Jalyn, CoraLynn, Ace, Ava, and Teddy; several nieces and nephews; many beloved friends; and Alabama head coach Nick Saban. He was preceded in death by his father James, mother-in-law Mimi, sister-in-law Drini, and his grandparents.
