Dee was born on October 8th, 1932, on Road 4, near Jones Crossing in Comyn, TX to Roy and Rosa Swanner. She grew up in Comyn, where she learned the values of faith, hard work, kindness, that shaped her entire life. She was saved at 12 years old under a brush arbor at Comyn Baptist Church.
Dee graduated from Comyn High School in 1950. She married Ross Dayle Mahan in 1952. After living in Fort Worth, then Austin, they settled in Colleyville, TX in January 1956. They raised their family there and attended Pleasant Glade Baptist Church. Dayle passed away in 1985, and 5 years later she remarried Kenneth Groom. Dee and Kenny enjoyed traveling together.
More than anything, Dee loved her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was at her happiest when she was with her kids and grandkids.
Those who knew her will remember her smile, which earned her the nickname of “Possum” as a child. Throughout her life, she found joy in serving others, and she faced life’s challenges with grace and courage. Her faith in God was unwavering.
She is survived by:
· 1 sister, Bonnie Goree.
· 5 children, Danny Mahan, Donny Mahan, Dwayne Mahan, Dusty Mahan and Deborah McComas-Revia.
· 12 biological grandchildren – Danny L. Mahan, Amy Lambert, Luke Mahan, Katy Faught, Eli Mahan, Levi Mahan, Molly Purpura, Colt Mahan, Melissa Robinson, Mica Mahan, Austin McComas and Aaron McComas.
· 7 bonus grandchildren: Troy Schultz. Todd Schultz, Amy Cleary, Jason Groom, Chris Groom, Blayze Bierschwale, and Hugh Charles.
· More than 35 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Dayle Mahan, her second husband, Kenneth A. Groom, her parents, Roy and Rosa Swanner, her sister Geraldine Sanders, and her infant son, Ross Dayle, Jr.
Dee leaves behind a legacy of faith, and family above all else—a legacy that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her. While she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones in Heaven. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of her family forever.
The Lord bless you and keep you; May He make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
