Dorothy Edith Wilson

September 18, 1924September 2, 2019

Dorothy Edith Wilson was born September 18th, 1924 in Winooski, Vermont to Wilfred and Laura Martell.

She was the third of six siblings; Leonard, Velma, Dorothy, Wilfred Jr (Willie), James, and Blanche. After graduating high school, she joined the military with her three brothers and her oldest sister during World War II.

Dorothy was stationed at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, Georgia where she served as a surgical technician caring for wounded soldiers, both Americans and Prisoners of War. During her time in the Army, she met and fell in love with Joe Wilson, a fellow surgical tech. They married June 2, 1947 in the Hospital Chapel surrounded by their friends and patients.

After being honorably discharged, the happy couple settled down in Fort Worth where they started their family. They had three children, Ronald Joe, born June 23rd 1948, Gary Gene, born August 10th 1950, and Debra Dianne, born September 20th 1953. In 1959 they moved to their forever home in Hurst where Dorothy lived for 60 years until moving to Assisted Living earlier this year.

Dorothy was full of love. She saw the best in everyone and never spoke poorly of anyone. She had a servant's heart and never hesitated to help those in need. Even in her nineties, she never stopped taking care of others. She was the perfect example for all and without her, there will be a tremendous void in the family.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband, Joe, her daughter Debra, and her granddaughter, Amy. She is survived by son, Ron and wife Marcia of Arlington TX; son, Gary and wife Debra of Hurst TX; son-in-law, Dennis Harter of Hurst; 18 grandchildren (six natural and twelve through marriage), fifteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

And many that loved her so much that they too called her Granny.

Mom, thank you for the love that you shared with so many. Thank you for getting me through many terrible times of my life. And thank you for being with me and cheering me on during the good times. You were always willing to serve others, to help others any way possible. I could never come close to your selflessness. You and dad were always my heroes. Deb and I have many trips with you that we are thankful for, we will be thinking of them often. I love you mom and miss you like crazy already.
