Doug Dobbs, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 74, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family in the final days of his life. He lived a life of boundless love, joy, and devotion.
Born on October 4, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Doug, along with his identical twin brother, David, were the firstborn of Jack and Donna Dobbs. He grew up in a tight-knit family with David, and younger brothers, Jeff, and Jay. Doug graduated from Cooper High School and went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Mankato State University.
Following college, Doug began his lifelong career in sales and management, initially working alongside his father, Jack, who was his mentor and role model. Doug’s passion for connecting with people led him into the staffing industry at Norell then Talent Tree. In 1985, he joined his brother Jeff and two partners to build their own staffing company, ProStaff. Doug served as Executive Vice President and Owner/Principal over the next 25 years. In addition, he served on the Board of the American Staffing Association, the governing body for staffing services. Doug helped build ProStaff into one of the nation’s largest privately held staffing companies, with over 230 offices nationwide. His leadership, vision, and talent for inspiring others earned him the affectionate, unofficial title of “Chief Fun Officer” among his colleagues.
Doug retired in 2009, choosing to focus on what he loved most: his family, his hobbies, and his deep passion for life. As a loving husband to Laura, the love of his life, whom he married in 2000, Doug and Laura shared a life filled with love, adventure and laughter and together, with their family, created countless cherished memories.
Doug was immensely proud of his three children, and he and Laura, affectionately known as “Poppy” and “Lolli” adored their ten grandchildren. Danielle (Dennis) Postiglione of Boerne, Texas (Vivian, Louden, Nicolas); Nicole (Jarrod) Bourgeois of Dallas, Texas (Ava, Owen, Brody, Ethan, Kaitlyn); and Derek (Brandace) Dobbs of Highland Village, Texas (Declan, Helena). Doug’s family and faith were the center of his world, and he took immense pride in his family members’ accomplishments, always ready with a word of encouragement or a celebration of their success.
In addition to his family, Doug had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, sports, and learning. Whether boating, fishing, golfing, or attending games, he found peace and joy in nature. As a longtime member of The Sports & Golf Club of Las Colinas and The Owner’s Club at Barton Creek in Austin, Doug enjoyed golfing with his family and friends and loved teaching his grandkids his love for the game. He was an avid sports fan, following the PGA, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Texas Rangers, and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren at their events. Doug was also a lifelong learner, with an insatiable curiosity that spanned history, business, and personal development.
Doug was a man of profound faith and strong convictions. He was politically active throughout his life, serving on the Board of GOPAC under Newt Gingrich. His love for his country and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs shone through in everything he did and he took great pride in the recent election results.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Donna Dobbs and his brother Jeff, with whom he built ProStaff and shared many cherished memories. He is survived by his brothers, David (Nancy) of Argyle, Texas, and Jay (Jackie) of Maple Grove, Minnesota; his sister-in-law Kay of Long Lake, Minnesota; and Margaret of Irving, Texas, the mother of their children. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. A reception will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral & Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas. A private interment for family will take place at a later date.
The Dobbs family extends their heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to the medical team at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Simmons Cancer Center for their exceptional care. Doug’s family is especially thankful to Doug’s loving wife, Laura, whose unwavering devotion, and support as his caregiver were constant throughout his illness.
Doug's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His warmth, wisdom, humor and his booming laugh will never be forgotten. His love for his family and friends will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. It was time for this mighty “Warrior” to rest in peace and celebrate the ultimate “Victory”!
