Doyce Elaine Wilhelm

Doyce Elaine Wilhelm, age 79, went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 14th, 2026. She was born on December 29th, 1946 in Mangum, Oklahoma to the late Cecil Meredith Meason and Violet (Cole) Meason.

Doyce was raised in the farm community of Wildcat, Oklahoma and graduated as the valedictorian from Centralvue High School. From an early age, Doyce knew she wanted to be a teacher. That calling grew into a lifelong career devoted to education and the students and communities she served. Throughout her career, Doyce served as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, and principal, working within Amarillo ISD, Oklahoma City Public Schools, Lamar CISD, Altus Public Schools, and Lewisville ISD.

Doyce was equally committed to her own education and professional growth. She earned her undergraduate degree in Teaching from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma graduating magna cum laude. That was followed by a Masters degree in School administration from West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX where she was recognized as Outstanding Administrative intern.

She married Dr. Leland Dwight “Butch” Wilhelm August 17th, 1967. They were inseparable for just shy of 59 years. Doyce and Leland spent almost 20 years in Amarillo, TX before relocating to El Reno, Oklahoma where Leland became Superintendent of schools. That was followed by a move to Sugar Land, TX where they retired the first time. Then they re-entered the classroom as teachers in Lewisville, TX until their final retirement.

Professionally her biggest challenge was when the family relocated, and she became principal at a school labelled “at risk” meaning the majority of the students were at risk of dropping out or not passing state testing standards. Through the dedication and hard work of Doyce, her students, faculty, and school community, the student performance improved enough for the school to be removed from the at-risk list. It was an accomplishment that reflected her commitment to education and the difference she strived to make in the lives of her students.

Her proudest family moments included her marriage to her husband Leland, the birth of her son, grandsons, and great granddaughters. She was extremely proud of them all and deeply loved the women her son and grandsons married. Doyce’s greatest joy was her family.

Her family and friends will always remember her as a perfectionist with an eye for detail, but she still had a silly streak. The meals she prepared, the landscaping around their home, and everything she owned reflected the care she put into all she did. If she passed something along to you, it was likely in as good or even better condition than the day she bought it.

Her fondest memories included playing on her family farm, playing high school basketball, where she earned the nickname “the Octopus”, reading, making amazing holiday meals for her family, wrapping gifts with her own handmade bows and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Violet Meason, and brother-in-law Duane Brewer of Dalhart, TX as well as sister-in-law Wanda Frisby and brother-in-law Mickey Frisby of Muskogee, OK.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Leland Wilhelm of Trophy Club, TX; son, Dwight Wilhelm and daughter-in-law, Pam Wilhelm of Trophy Club; grandsons, Austin Wilhelm and his wife, Madeline Lea Wilhelm of Yukon, OK, Tyler Wilhelm and his wife, Selina Diane Wilhelm of College Station, TX, and Trent Wilhelm, also of Trophy Club. She has two beautiful great-granddaughters, Marlowe Lea Wilhelm and Emmitt Grace Wilhelm. She is also survived by her sister, Cecillia Brewer of Dalhart, TX; brother, David Meason and his wife, Gay of Duke, Oklahoma; nephew, Kyle Brewer of Dalhart; niece, Heather Brewer Fixsen of Amarillo; nephew, Aaron Brewer of Amarillo; and niece, Lindsay Dollins of Duke.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034.
