He graduated from Lycoming College with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Following college, in 1971, he joined the Air Force, becoming an Aircraft Commander on the B-52, and achieving the rank of Captain. Ed went on to build a career in aviation, working at Southwest Airlines from 1982 through 2014 as a captain on the Boeing 737, and then from 2014 on at Flight Safety as an instructor pilot. In 2025, Ed received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award from the FAA, celebrating 50 years of civilian and military pilot experience.
In 1977, he married Tina Burnet, sharing 32 loving years of marriage until Tina’s passing in 2009. Together they built a home in Southlake, raising two children and creating countless memories with family and friends. In 2017, another cherished partnership began when Ed married Jan McDowell. They have enjoyed spending time together with friends and loved ones for the past 9 years. Ed had a passion for family- finding joy in spending time with his children and grand-children.
Those who knew him will remember his love for God, generosity, kind and approachable demeanor, and his endless sense of humor.
