Born on May 27, 1938, in Madison, Wisconsin, Ed lived a long and fulfilling life defined by his unwavering dedication to family, strong work ethic, and appreciation for life’s simple joys. Throughout his life, he created homes and lasting memories in Chicago, Illinois; Memphis, Tennessee; San Ramon and Manteca, California; before finally settling in Trophy Club, Texas.
Ed was the steady anchor of his family and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was always at the center of his life, and he demonstrated through both words and actions the importance of love, commitment, and showing up for those you care about most.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Carol Prenot; his six children, Mary Carol Jernigan (Steve), Cathy Swann (Mike), Bob Prenot (Cheryl), Bill Prenot (Tammy), Gina Kent (Klinie), and Andy Prenot (Danielle); 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren, with two more expected this fall. His growing family brought him immense pride and joy and remains a lasting testament to the legacy he built.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel Prenot; his sisters, Janet and Sharon; and his brother, Bobby.
Ed embraced life fully and enjoyed golfing, traveling, gardening, and spending time outdoors tending to his garden. He loved gathering around a card table for poker, pinochle, gin rummy, cribbage, Liar’s Dice, and Rummikub, and never turned down an opportunity for a little friendly competition or occasional gambling fun.
Above all else, Ed treasured time with family. Whether at holidays, celebrations, family dinners, or everyday moments together, he found his greatest happiness simply being surrounded by the people he loved.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Ed’s honor be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or Catholic Relief Services.
Ed lived a life well loved and leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the many generations of family he cherished so deeply.
