Effie “Gay” Joyner (McWilliams), a beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother passed away on July 28th at the age of 82. The first of three children, born to Reginald and Katheliade McWilliams on October 14th, 1938 in Tyler Texas. She grew up in Canton and Dallas, graduating from Hillcrest Highschool and Texas Tech University. She married Charles Joyner Jr., her loving husband of more than 56 years. After raising their children in Irving, they moved to Colleyville. Gay was a homemaker/super mom, raising two children and dedicated her life to support everyone around her. She was a proud, “over the top”, and fun Grandma. Never met a stranger, had an infectious laugh, and known far and wide as an incredible baker. Gay was also a prolific reader, green thumb gardener, loved Christmas and her trips to Hawaii.
Gay is survived by her brother Jerry and wife Myra McWilliams, son David and wife Carrie Joyner of Southlake, daughter Cynthia Rogers and husband Brian of Flower Mound; and grandchildren Andrew and Kelly Joyner, Jaime and Carly Stilwell, Nathan and Jake Zitur, and Bailey and Trent Rogers.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-5pm on August 2nd at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Texas(https://www.txalz.org).
