Mom was born Ella Mae Loftin on November 2, 1932 to Roman Lee Loftin and Edith Yates in Polk County Texas…at least according to her birth certificate. In later years she would tell a story about how she was really born Marie Loftin on November 3...it was never really clear to me about that so I have always gone by what was on her birth certificate.
Being born during the depression years was not likely an easy time, although Mom had fond memories about being a daddy’s girl and how much she had loved her father.
When she was around 16 years old, her mother remarried and leaving her children, went with her new husband, Bill Zachary, in search of work. I believe Mom felt abandoned by this and pretty much struck out on her own at 16, having her first of 5 children just after her 18th birthday, George Templin who everyone called Bobby.
After raising Bob as a single mother for about 5 years she met and married Raymond Crossland and had two more children, Betty and Raymond.
While, raising 3 kids on her own, she met and married George Dearing. George brought us all happiness and lots of laughter and was the source of Mom’s happiness as well as her guiding influence. Mom and Dad were eventually blessed with two more children, Brenda and Doug.
Mom LOVED each and every one of her children with all of her heart and soul.
