Esperanza Melendez Guerrero of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on July 25, 2019 in Lewisville, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all that knew and loved her.
She was born on February 10, 1934 to Guadalupe Sapien Melendez and Donaciano Melendez. Esperanza known as Espy to her friends and colleagues was a remarkable woman who raised 10 children and then decided to pursue a career as a teacher. She entered college at the age of 44 and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. She taught American History and World Geography for the Dallas Independent School District, and was beloved by her students and fellow teachers. On November 23, 1997, she was awarded Teacher of the Week at North Dallas High School. After teaching for 20 years, she retired at 70 years of age.
Esperanza is survived by her children, Lupe Diaz, Alma Burkhart, Irene Munoz-Smith, Jose Armando Guerrero Jr., Jose Abraham Guerrero, Maria Elena McCorkle, Carol Lydia Johnson, Jose Alfredo Guerrero, and Enriqueta (Katie) Guthrie, and their families which includes 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Jose Armando Guerrero and Sarah Ann Kalail.
The visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, July 29, at J.E. Foust Funeral Home Chapel, 523 S. Main St. in Grapevine, 76051 with Pastor Kevin Weir officiating.
