Evelyn Pendley, born October 22 to Arthur Dennis Pelham and Jessie Smith Pelham, passed away October 12, 2018. Evelyn was born eighth in a family of twelve in Payne Springs, Texas. She was predeceased by ten of her siblings.
Evelyn met and married her husband of forty-four years, William E. Pendley, in Dallas. They moved to Denver, Wichita Falls, and Lawton before returning to Dallas in 1960. They raised two daughters, Barbara Pendley Robinson (Peter) and Beverly Pendley Hrablook (Lawrence). Evelyn was the Bluebird and Campfire Girl leader and taught Sunday School for 5-year olds at Lake Highlands Baptist Church. She worked in banking and business and for Southern Methodist University Continuing Education. She managed a showroom at World Trade Center for Aldik. She built friendships throughout her community with her work and volunteer activities, and organized frequent visits with her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews.
In 1990, Bill and Evelyn wanted to be closer to their grandchildren, Nicholas Palmer Robinson and Alexander Parker Robinson (as well as their daughters and sons-in-law). They moved to Keller. Bill passed away in 1993. Evelyn built a new house on Greenbriar and started building her new social connections at First Baptist Church of Keller, Friends of the Library (Keller), and Keller Women’s Club. She started Reading Buddies at Willis Lane Elementary School, a program that continues today, helping young students practice their reading. Evelyn was one of the first residents in Watermere, and once again built a network of friends.
Evelyn lived her life in service to her Lord, Jesus Christ, demonstrating his love and attention to all people in family, friendship, and service. She was a self-starter, and she helped those in need, reached out to others, and served as a good example of how to live. She lived life fully, independent to the end. She will be remembered fondly by all those her knew her.
Services were held October 17 at Bluebonnet Hills and October 24 at Watermere.
