Fredrick Russell Lewinn, 71, of North Richland Hills, passed away on July 28, 2021. He was in the care of Vitas Hospice in Ft. Worth, surrounded by his family. Russell was born on March 20, 1950, in Childress, Texas, but lived most of his life in the mid-cities area.
Russell is survived by his wife, Anette Lewinn; two daughters Nicole Ward and Natalie Hosner, son-in-law Rob Hosner, and grandchildren: Landon, Caleb, Hayden, and Rebekah; sister Lesa Porter and her husband Tom Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Lewinn, and his sister, Cathy Lewinn Hoes.
Russell went to Euless Junior High and then was part of the first class to graduate from the new L.D. Bell High School in 1968. To this day he would often sing the L.D. Bell High School alma mater whenever he drove past the school or when he met another graduate. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree from Dallas Baptist University, a business degree with an emphasis on supply chain management.
He had a tremendous work ethic and started working at the age of 14 (part time) until he retired in October of 2020, at the age of 70. His working career of 56 years started as a busboy in a cafe, a pool boy for a local “country club”, and included working for Southwest Commercial Products, Larwel Industries, Xerox, and finally 19 years with Southwest Airlines. He loved working at Southwest Airlines and often bragged that he worked for the best company in the world! That love was not one-sided. As messages and videos from coworkers have poured in, we have heard of their love for Russell. He was seen as a friend, wise mentor, father-figure, respected coworker, a positive encourager, and an all-around funny guy who told great stories and often livened up meetings!
Russell married Anette on October 8, 2005, and together they enjoyed numerous cruises and trips! Perhaps the trip to Israel was the highlight of his life – walking where Jesus walked. He loved to travel, but his passion was golf. So many stories and so many great golf trips!
The most important part of Russell was his accepting Christ as his Savior when he was 19. He shared his faith, which was very evident in his life even as he suffered with cancer. He was grateful for his many blessings and thankful for everything that God had given him. His only regret was not getting to see his grandchildren grow up, but he assured them that he will be watching them from Heaven.
His Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 21, at 10:30 AM, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 6649 Precinct Line Road, N. Richland Hills, TX 76182.
