George Henderson Thiess

George Thiess, 95, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born October 25, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jack and Elva Joy Thiess. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Lovkay and brother Jack Thiess. He is survived by his wife Susan, with whom they shared 38 years of a happy marriage, son Eric Parker, and his wife Lisa, daughter Suzanne Graupman and her husband David, stepson William R. Kucera, PhD., stepdaughter Mitzi Nicholetti and her husband Karl, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

George served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX. He then went to Washington University in St. Louis, MO, where he graduated with a degree in Physics.

George Thiess was a famous inventor, in 1970 having invented the first digital watch, the PULSAR, which is now in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. In the early 1980's he was selected by the government to research and develop an electric car. This he did and leased a number of electric cars in Dallas as part of his research. This was prior to the lithium batteries and golf car batteries being used. In addition he worked with some of the government departments in fulfilling security needs.

In the 1990's George helped build a factory building where we took joy sticks and adapted circuit boards which allowed us to develop a joystick that would fly airplane games on Apple Computers. His son Eric provided his game "Hellcats Over The Pacific" to be bundled with our products. This was very successful and in all the big computer warehouses and stores.

We moved to central Texas in the country in November of 2000 where we built our home. While there, George became a Board Director on HILCO Electric Coop in Itasca Texas Hill County for 15 years. He also served on the Board of Brazos Electric in Waco, TX for two years.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Refreshments will be served from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034.

Cremation will follow and placement will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
