Gerald Coggins, age 86, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on June 11, 2026.
Gerald was born on May 7, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Carl and Jewel Coggins. He was raised in Haltom City, Texas, and graduated from Birdville High School in 1958.
Gerald had one daughter, Connie Austin, and he was proud to be her father. In 1994, he married Carole Lloyd, and together they shared many wonderful years filled with love, laughter, friendship, and a mutual passion for fishing.
Gerald worked as a sheet metal worker for more than 30 years with Lewis & Lambert Sheet Metal, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, strong work ethic, and craftsmanship.
One of Gerald's greatest joys in life was fishing. He and Carole met through the Fort Worth Bass Association and spent as much time on the water as they could. Together they were avid bass fishermen who enjoyed tournament fishing and earned numerous trophies over the years, including mounted bass that served as lasting reminders of their adventures. As he grew older and fishing became more difficult, Gerald enjoyed relaxing at home while watching Grit TV and his favorite westerns.
Those who knew Gerald will remember him as a true gentle giant. In his younger years, he was a big, burly man, but beneath that tough exterior was a heart of gold. He was kind, caring, and fiercely devoted to the people he loved. Gerald cherished spending time with family and friends, and his warm personality made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was truly a wonderful man whose kindness, generosity, and sense of humor brought joy to countless lives.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jewel Coggins; his brother, Donald Coggins; and his sisters, Emma Dale Hendrix and Joyce Ambrose.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Coggins; his loving daughter, Connie Austin and her husband, Joey Austin; his grandson, Derian Austin; and his brother, Derwood Coggins.
Gerald truly was a sweet, kind, lovable, and irresistible person and he would have been the first to tell you so. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gathering with friends for dominoes nights, sharing stories, and making memories with those he loved most.
Gerald's gentle spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering love for family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
