Dearest Loves, it’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of Gerrod’s passing on Saturday, May 30. It was definitely unexpected, but in true Gerrod fashion, he and God had other plans. We know he peacefully joined God, walking with his Dad Gordon and likely John Wayne to a place where the fishing is good and the country fried steak is top-notch.
His loved ones and friends were there to welcome him home with love and smiles.
Gerrod was loved by many, but his hugs were big enough for all of us. We will likely miss his hugs the most. Luckily, Jackson, who’s 6’4”, hugs big and hard too! Gerrod never wanted anyone to be sad and would help anyone in need.
He spent the best part of his career teaching science and coaching football because he loved sharing his knowledge and life experience with young people. He never stopped learning and we were always amazed that he was the top subject matter expert on everything! He never said “I don’t know” because he knew if someone respected him enough to ask, he was going to help.
Born in Lubbock, Texas on March 26, 1973. Gerrod dug deep roots in Grapevine with his family, where their home was always full of love and joy, welcoming everyone.
Gerrod loved life and shared its joy with everyone. He enjoyed laughter and loved all people, regardless of their skin color or circumstances. He dedicated himself to Grapevine Football and continued his career at Abilene Christian University. He graduated with honors from Texas A&M University with a degree in Biomedical Science. As a die-hard Ag, watching college sports was a lively event for us, because of my love for the Red Raiders!
Gerrod and I married in 2000 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Fort Worth. He wanted me to be happy and understand his deep love for me, so we married despite his non-Catholic faith. He continued to love me every day, throughout our 26-year marriage. In 2002, we welcomed Jackson to the world, and Gerrod dedicated his life to giving him everything he had, and then some! Our family motto was Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A cord of three strands is not easily broken,” and we lived and loved each other that way, always. Gerrod had a strong relationship with God and loved Him very much! He cherished being outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, or just being a part of nature! We had our best times as a family on a river, camping, or in the mountains!
Valley Mills, Texas, was where his heart and soul shined like the stars there! His Grandad and Nanna raised Gordon, his siblings, and Gerrod’s cousins there, and Gerrod and his sisters spent much of their youth loving and laughing with them there! He was affectionately known as Bubba, and Jackson and I were greatly loved by his family!
Gerrod leaves an unwavering legacy of love with his wife Carol, son Jackson, mother Carole, sisters Heather (Mike Stephens), Christy, Tracy (Chris Miazga), nieces and nephews Tesla (Dillon Branton), Peyton (Dylan Bruno), Regan, Reid, Beau, Dustin (Timmarie), Dalton, Harper, Heath, and his lifelong best friends Jeff Stuart and Jim Dixon. He will always be in the hearts of my brothers Chuck and Paul, and sisters Mary and Deb. We are overly blessed by the family and friends who continue to share their love and prayers during this difficult time.
We would be honored if you could donate any used reading books to Valley Hope Addiction Center in Grapevine, Texas.
Celebration of Gerrod's Life is Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas 76034
