He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and colleague to all that knew and loved him. He was born on March 22, 1924 in Irving, Texas to Robert Andrew Gleghorn and Mary Bertha Lucinda Haley.
Glenn Gleghorn's early life began working for his Father on the family farm. He entered into the United States Army in 1944. During his time in the Army he secured and guarded prisoners for the Nuremberg war crime trials in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. Upon his return from the war, he went back to work on the family farm. A few short years later Glenn was married to the love of his life Helen Jean Cannon. They were married for 63 years until her passing in 2013. He worked for Atkins Butane from 1953 to 1977. He was one of the founding members of the Euless Volunteer Fire Department in 1955. Glenn worked from 1977 to 1995 as a maintenance worker for Fort Worth Christian. With his inability to sit still he went to work as a crossing guard for the city of Euless, Texas from 1997 to 2019.
Glenn Gleghorn was a devoted and faithful member of Airport Freeway Church of Christ from its early beginnings and continuing for over 50 years. He was there to open and close the doors for each service and activity. He had a smile and kind word, or joke for everyone, and possibly a penny, nickel or a two dollar bill if it was your birthday or just because. He was a Godly man whose faith and devotion to The Lord defined the principles by which he lived his life and treated those around him.
Glenn is survived by; sisters, Marinell Zaun of Irving, TX, and Vera Lou Gleghorn of Irving, TX; daughter, Sandra Chamberlain and husband Noel of Grand Prairie, TX ; daughter in-law, Donna Simons and husband Brian of Colleyville, TX; grandsons, Chris Lammons and wife Megan of Prosper, TX; Cody Lammons and wife Melody of Mansfield, TX, Connor Gleghorn of Colleyville, TX, Monty Chamberlain and wife Cindy of Louise TX , Jason Chamberlain and wife Lupe of Oklahoma City, OK ; granddaughter, Alicia Denman of McKinney, TX, and 13 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Bertha; sister, Marjory; brothers Milton, Alvin, and Carl; wife, Helen, and son, Thomas.
The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Airport Freeway Church of Christ in Euless, TX. The Funeral Service will be held at Airport Freeway Church of Christ in Euless, TX at 10 o’clock am on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. The internment will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Memorial Park.
