Jack graduated from Abilene High School, and attended Hardin-Simmons University. Moving to Dallas in 1948, he went to work for Taylor Publishing Co. and worked as a graphic designer and in sales for the next sixteen years, pausing for a two year stint in the army, serving in Korea. After leaving Taylor Publishing, he worked for Hesse Envelope, and Love Envelope as a sales representative, covering the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, as well as Houston, and Oklahoma. In addition, Jack also owned a graphic arts and commercial lettering business.
While serving in Korea, Jack was in charge of creating territory maps for the 25th Infantry Division, 35th Regiment. In 1950, Jack noticed "a beautiful woman" sharing a ride on the city bus, who happened to also work for Taylor Publishing. He eventually met and married "the love of his life", Marjorie Gilmore. They were married for 68 years. Jack and Marge lived in Dallas, Farmer's Branch, and Grapevine before moving to Wichita Falls in 2007. They were longtime members of Memorial Baptist Church in Grapevine where they were active in church activities. Jack served as a deacon. They are currently members of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.
Jack and Marge were blessed with two daughters. Sharon Wilson, and her husband Kevin, reside in Charlotte, NC, and Susan Burrus resides in Wichita Falls. They have three granddaughters, and six great grandchildren. Jack and Marge enjoyed traveling the US in their motor homes, and overseas trips to various countries. Jack's favorite sport was golf. He also enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, dominoes, and bridge.
He always mentioned how thankful to the Lord he was for everything, and everyone, and for his salvation.
