James was born in Marshall. He worked for the Texas & Pacific Railroad, worked as an Army medic and drove an ambulance in Ireland during World War II.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Maude Robertson; and a son, James Kevin Robertson.
Survivors: Wife, Shirley Fisher Robertson; and son, John Carl Robertson.
