Jan H. Powell

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.

Jan was born in 1936 in Gatesville to William R. and Berniece Powell. He attended TCU and later graduated from UTA with a bachelor of science in geology. He worked for Bell Helicopter for 20 years and later dedicated his professional career in petroleum exploration with Western Production Co. His great passions for natural rock formations and photography of nature were only surpassed by his devotion to his family, most notably, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A kind, patient, and generous man, he helped family members in need at every opportunity. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his loving spirit and his kindness to all.

Jan was preceded in death by his brother, Donald R. Powell; sister, Billie Berns Mullholland; an infant son, William Gunn Powell; and grandson, Matthew Keaton Powell.

Survivors: He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dana Powell; brother, Roger Powell; son, Tim Powell and his wife, Liz; daughter, Jennifer Weikum; stepchildren, Patrick Barker and his wife, Celeste, Mary Rowell and her husband, Bob, Margaret and her husband, Van S. Kiser; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
