January 18, 1939 - November 28, 2021
Janice Laura Atencio, age 82, of Bedford Texas passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her home in Bedford. She was a beautiful soul inside and out and her kindness, generosity, smile, and easy laugh will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and all who knew her. The family is heartbroken, but grateful that she is no longer in pain.
Janice, who went by Jan, was born on January 18, 1939 in Abilene, Texas to loving parents Willie D, and Ava Williams. She had an older sister Dee and younger brother Butch who she adored. She spent her younger years in Abilene surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins and had very fond memories of her life as a child. Her family would later move to Fort Worth, Texas where Jan would attend Brewer High School. Jan would remain in the Fort Worth area for most of her life and would raise a family in Bedford, Texas.
Jan would become the mother of six children, all girls, who she raised with her sweet husband Fidelio “Tony” Atencio in Bedford, Texas. Tony was the love of her life. She was a wonderful mother and wife and always put her family first. Her husband Tony was career Air Force and she was proud to be a military wife, even though it meant him being gone overseas to Vietnam, Japan, and other locations at times. Jan worked for 26 years for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District before retiring. She was a very hard worker, had close lifelong friendships with her co-workers, and loved being around children at the schools. Jan and Tony were very happy together and had been married since May of 1963. They created a great life together and truly loved each other. They were members of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Bedford, Texas.
Jan enjoyed attending family events, sewing, playing bingo, sometimes playing the slots, and going on traveling adventures with her husband Tony and her sister Dee. But mostly, she just loved her family and would do anything for them.
Jan had 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She also loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She was born to be a mother and would always offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Her contagious laugh and twinkle in her eye will always be remembered. She was petite in size but had a big heart and huge fighting spirit.
Jan is survived by daughters Janet Jankowski, Cindy Bethea, Tina Ferguson and husband Les; granddaughters Stacie Bethea, Erica Welch, Jordan Ferguson; grandsons Joshua Bethea, Dillon Cox, Kyle Grezeszak, Branndon Grezeszak, Aaron Grezeszak, Steven Chiavini, Richard Burns, Michael Dyer, Cody Dyer, Matt Ferguson and wife Lindsey; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
