

He was born 1919 in Hungry Hollow, Iowa. He was a proud World War II veteran, where he served as Master Sargent for the Army Air Corps in the European theater. He was hired by American Airlines in 1947, and began his career in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1951, he relocated to Dallas, Texas to begin flying out of Love Field. Jay held many positions in the Training Department for American Airlines. During his time there, he most notably developed the training program for the Boeing 747. He retired from American Airlines in 1982 after 35 years of service. He then dedicated his life to his family and his Lord, volunteering as a missionary with International Childcare in Haiti. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Maxine Marie, his son Mike, and grandson, Jamey. He is survived by his daughter, Robyn Stewart, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 22nd at 12:30 in the Memorial Chapel at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville, Texas. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery.
