Jean Margaret Ann (Lock) Hine was born in Teddington, England on 11/8/1938. She died peacefully in her sleep on 10/10/2023. Jean married her first husband, Nicholas George in 1960. They had two daughters, Theresa and Jackie. The marriage ended in divorce. Jean married Homer Phil Hine on 8/29/1987. They were still married at the time of her death. Jean was preceded in death by her mother Alice, brother David, and her sisters Pam and Linda. She is survived by her brother Peter, husband Phil, daughter Theresa and husband Mike Kline, daughter Jackie and husband Geoffrey Shannon, granddaughter Elizabeth and husband Devin, and granddaughter Brittany.
In England Jean worked at Marks and Spencer's. She was proud to become the manageress of the food department. After moving to America, Jean was a full-time mother. When her daughters started school, she began working part-time at Sears as a saleswoman. She worked her way up to the display department where she won an award for a display of Coca-Cola and the Dallas Cowboys.
Jean loved her family. Spending time together as a family was very important to her. She liked to have her “kids” over for Sunday dinner. Jean enjoyed taking trips with her daughters and granddaughters. The trips were always fun and full of laughter. Jean and Phil enjoyed gambling. They took trips to Las Vegas and Tunica several times with their friend Jerry. Locally, they all enjoyed going to Winstar Casino. Jean loved animals. She shared her life with many dogs and cats over the years. If she was out and about and saw a dog, she always wanted to stop and say hello. Jean donated to animal charities. Jean's hobbies include jigsaw puzzles, knitting and reading. Jean was an active member of her British Club.
Jean was kind, friendly and had a big heart. She was a strong woman with a positive attitude. Jean made people feel comfortable around her. She was always ready with a hug and a shoulder to cry on if needed. She never gave up. Jean experienced many hardships in her life. Her sense of humor and determination kept her going. She provided encouragement and support to her daughters and granddaughters. Jean was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She will be greatly missed.
When Jean was diagnosed with esophageal cancer a few months ago, she faced the diagnosis with her normal strength, dignity, and sense of humor. Her doctors and nurses were impressed by her positive attitude and determination. When I (Jackie) talked to mom about what she wanted said about her, she said “Don’t make a fuss. Just say: she was here, now she’s gone.” That was typical of mom’s down to earth nature.
