John and Karen Hazard

Karen was born in Alton, Illinois in 1948 to Claire and Jean Austill, the oldest of four siblings. Karen moved around as a child following her father, including Illinois, Connecticut and California before moving to Indiana to attend Purdue University. Soon after graduating college she married her husband John, who she had met as a teenager in Norwalk, Connecticut as they waited at the train station to pick their respective fathers up. They moved to Connecticut briefly before John was transferred in the US Navy to Norfolk Virginia where they spent 23 years before John’s retirement from the Navy. Karen has a fondness of working with numbers and worked as a bookkeeper and later as a seasonal tax preparer. Upon John’s retirement from the Navy, they moved to Keller Texas for six years before following a new career opportunity in Mount Pleasant South Carolina. In 2013, with the arrival of their grandchild, Karen and John retired and moved back to Texas to be closer to their grandchild and son.

Karen was preceded in death by her loving husband John, her parents Claire and Jean and her sister Mary, and is survived by her brothers Mike and Mark, son Patrick and grandchildren Isla, Sean and Grant.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 at 130pm for both Karen and John Hazard at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. 5725 Colleyville Boulevard Colleyville, Texas 76034.
