John Andrew Chalmers
April 16th, 1935 – November 25th, 2023
John A. Chalmers, age 88, died early morning November 25th surrounded by his wife Marilyn and loving friends.
John was born in Dundee, Scotland, to his mother Annie and father Andrew Chalmers. He joined a cycling club at the age of 14 (the youngest in-fact) and began his life-long passion traversing the world on two wheels. He immigrated to the United States in 1956, welcomed by his host family: Bettie and Maury Hill, whom we love and honor, by establishing his first home here in Texas.
John joined the United States Army in 1958 where he served in the Korean War as a “chef”. He retired from Bell Textron Inc. after 20 years, September 1998. He was an Engineer who specialized in the creation of the V-22 Yoke-- now, along with its adaptations, still used in modern-day aircraft.
John married his loving wife, Marilyn, June 6th, 1964. Celebrating 59 wonderful years of love, life, and adventure between them. John is survived by his wife, Marilyn and their three children: Leslie, Craig, and Kyle (along with their spouses); survived by his grandchildren: Kayleigh, Charlie, Robert, Jesse, and Cameron. He is also survived by his dearest brother Jim and his wife, Joyce, and their daughter, Shelley, who still live in Great Britain. Last, but, certainly not least, he is survived by all his wonderful friends and “Old Buddies” whom he cherished.
John loved exploring the world, embracing new cultures, and welcoming all who entered his life, with love. He devoted himself to serve family, God, and country. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed riding every inch of the Texas' Hill Country. He was an historian, philosopher, gardener, an aesthete, and a life-long learner. However, above all, he was a Scotsman! We celebrate his life and the impact he made in our hearts.
We ask all who can and are able to celebrate with his family the wonderful life John lived and honor the man whom we all knew and loved.
