

John Robert Koontz was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, John will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
He was the son of Howard and Evelyn Koontz.
John was raised with two sisters, Ruby and Rita, and one brother, Daniel. John was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. They shared many life experiences over the years.
Empathic and loyal, John was committed to making his new family happy.
John worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. John was blessed with three sons, Greg, Rusty, and Brent. Another blessing for John was the gift of sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Hank, Chris, Paiyten, Brett, Hunter, Cole, Meagan, Ashley, Colby, Bayli, Holden, Teagan, Dawn, Samantha, John D., and Cassidy; great-grandchildren, Austin and John Harold.
Fortunately, John enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, John worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. He was employed for 35 years with General Motors at the Arlington, Texas plant. John always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
John was an U.S. Air Force Veteran. He served in the U.S. Air Force in French Morocco. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
John enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. John was very active in his children's and grandchildren's sports activities and rarely every missed a game or event. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
John’s faith was important to him. He was a long time, active member of Trinity Community Church.
John passed away on May 18, 2016 at his residence in Bedford, Texas. He is survived by his wife Sandy Hardage Koontz; children, Greg Koontz (Elizabeth), Rusty Koontz (April), Brent Koontz (Angi), Mark Hardage, and Vicki Sue Smith (John); father, Howard Koontz; siblings, Ruby Kelly (Calvin), Rita Bittinger (Charles), Daniel Koontz (Barbara); mother-in-law, Rebecca Brickell; brother-in-law, Charles Brickell; grandchildren, Hank, Chris, Paiyten, Brett, Hunter, Cole, Meagan, Ashley, Colby, Bayli, Holden, Teagan, Dawn, Samantha, John D., and Cassidy; great-grandchildren, Austin and John Harold; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Colleyville, texas. John was laid to rest in the Court of Compassion in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas.
Simply stated, John was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. John leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember John Robert Koontz.

John Robert Koontz, 79, passed away May 18, 2016. Service: 10 AM Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home with interment to follow. Visitation: 4-6 PM Sunday at the funeral home. John was born in White Sulphur Springs, WV on January 31, 1937. He served in the U.S. Air Force in French Morocco. John retired from General Motors after 35 years at the Arlington Plant. He was a long time, active member of Trinity Community Church. John was very active in his children's and grandchildren's sports activities and rarely every missed a game or event. He is preceded by his mother, Evelyn Koontz, father-in-law, Walter Brickell, and wife Virginia Louise Koontz. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Hardage Koontz; children, Greg Koontz (Elizabeth), Rusty Koontz (April), Brent Koontz (Angi), Mark Hardage, and Vicki Sue Smith (John); father, Howard Koontz; siblings, Ruby Kelly (Calvin), Rita Bittinger (Charles), Daniel Koontz (Barbara); mother-in-law, Rebecca Brickell; brother-in-law, Charles Brickell; grandchildren, Hank, Chris, Paiyten, Brett, Hunter, Cole, Meagan, Ashley, Colby, Bayli, Holden, Teagan, Dawn, Samantha, John D., and Cassidy; great-grandchildren, Austin and John Harold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
