

COLLEYVILLE -- John Edward Thompson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bluebonnet Hills Funeral with Rev. Eleanor Cherryholmes officiating. Interment: Watson Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation: Friends are invited to come and share memories and visit with the family starting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Mr. Thompson was born in Grand Prairie to Ed Nucom Thompson and Mary Susan "Suzie" McCoy on March 12, 1934. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1953. He married Nelda Eileen Smith in 1955 and they settled in Colleyville in 1965. John and Nelda met at a square dance at Watson Community Center and they married Oct. 14, 1955, in Lewisville. Mr. Thompson was a member of West Fork Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie. Mr. Thompson served in the Army and was stationed in Germany in 1957. Nelda also lived in Germany while he was there. John loved country music and had a band for several years. He and Nelda enjoyed dancing, especially the waltz. Mr. Thompson has had a Farmers' Insurance Agency in Colleyville for 32 years. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Evelyn Parker; and brother, William "Pete" Thompson. Survivors: Loving wife, Nelda, of 58 years; son, John Stephen Thompson and wife, Danette; daughter, Sheri Renee Burcham and husband, Steve, of Grapevine; grandsons, John Robert Thompson and Carl Hayden Burcham; great-grandson, John Reese Thompson; sisters, Mary Sue Shelton and Billie Ruth Shelton.
